Global Value Chain Participation and Inclusive Growth in Sub-Saharan Africa

Global value chain (GVC) participation has been identified as one of the means by which developing countries can attain inclusive growth yet little attention paid to it in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Motivated dearth studies on SSA, we investigate effect GVC for 19 SSA period 1991 2017, using system GMM estimator. The results show that drives through employment creation. We find though SSA’s foreign addition is less than its domestic addition, former’s impact higher latter. recommend policymakers support downstream industries acquire technologies while incentivizing and attracting upstream into their countries.
